Amish People

Who are the Amish ? 

 

The Amish people in America are an old religious sect, direct descendants of the Anabaptists of sixteenth-century Europe.

The first group of Amish arrived in America around 1730 and settled near Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, as a result of William Penn's 'holy experiment' in religious tolerance.

Today there are over 25 different group of Amish and the more traditional groups are called 'old order'.

The majority are Amish have settled in Ohio and Pennsylvania

They are in Indiana, in the United States, as well as Ontario in Canada too.

The Old Order Amish and Mennonites, are also known as the "Plain People". They are the largest group and , are the most conservative.

Despite the passage of time and changing society, they work as did their ancestors.

The Amish are very devout in their faith. They believe in the literal interpretation and application of Scripture as the Word of God. They take seriously the Biblical commands to separate themselves from the things of the world. They believe worldliness can keep them from being close to God, and can introduce influences that could be destructive to their communities and to their way of life.

All aspects of Amish life are dictated by a list of written or oral rules, known as Ordnung, which outlines the basics of the Amish faith and helps to define what it means to be Amish

They do not permit use electricity or telephones in their homes. The Amish doesn't wants modern world into their home life and limit access to television, radio, or take the car for example. They use their horses on the road for move.

Moreover for their job, they do not permit the use of tractors in their fields, or modern farm equipment.

The Amish are averse to any technology which they feel weakens the family structure. The electricity, television, automobiles, telephones and tractors are considered to be dangerous and create inequality, in community.

Their families and their farms are their top priorities, second only to God.

The family is the most important social unit in the Amish culture. Large families with seven to ten children are common and divorce is not permitted. The separation is very rare. Chores are clearly divided by sexual role in the Amish home - the man usually works on the farm, while the wife does the washing, cleaning, cooking, and other household chores.

They believe strongly in education, but only in their own private schools.

The Amish have a strong sense of community spirit, and often come to the aid of those in need. they give of their time and their skills to help one another.

The Amish dress code is very simple style, according to them. The Clothing is made at home and are primarily dark in color.

Amish men cannot wear the mustaches for example or wear the belts, sweaters, neckties or gloves. It's forbidden too.

For the Amish women, she typically wear solid-color dresses with long sleeves and a full skirt, covered with a cape and an apron. They must never cut their hair and she are not permitted to wear patterned clothing or jewelry.

My opinions

Amish culture is interesting. There are many different and independent communities with their own traditions.
The desire to live on the fringes of modern society is a strong and respectable to show is disagreement world. Prove that it is possible to live more simply, help and not make useless things to the evolution of life.
Explain to young people the problems of modern consumer who needs power to create is very important. I like the idea of not using media such as television or mobile phone.

Otherwise, I do not like the Amish life is based on reading and practical application of the teachings of the New Testament. It is my indoctrination, because they teach what they want their children to private schools. This is dangerous.
The status of women is also lowered because they can not dress as they want or say what they think. They can not work because their part at home.
Society can not evolve in the right direction in these conditions. This is the advantage of being in a modern world, no longer live as the Middle Ages to have the gender equalities or peoples.
Moreover, being a young Amish should not be funny, because they are excluded from other youth and their aolescence Enjoy no. Even if they have a large family, it's a shame.

  

Overview of the attacks

 

Ohio, november 2011, seven members of the community Amish are arrested by the police. They are accused of hate crimes like illegal detention, grievous bodily harm. The leader punish them because the group don’t follow the rules, he had to punish them. These attacks took place because the religion is strict.

This types of act develop some questions about religion, their rules and their life in autarky.

 

Bad Education

What's wrong with our education system ?

1. Katherine Birbalsingh believes that there is a problem with UK's education system. Can you identify it within the first three minutes of the video? What is the problem?
 

According to Katherine Birbalsingh, ‘the education system is broken’. She thinks the most important problem in the education is the 'poor children poor'. In the UK's education system where children don't feel they are responsible of their exam success...or failure at school.

 2. Why does this problem exist according to this teacher? (from 3 min to 4 min 26 sec)

Katherine talk about, the “culture excuse”. Teachers shouldn't excuse pupils for their bad behaviour just because he comes to difficult background or he have more difficulties. It doesn't help pupils to be more responsible about themselves.

3. What do the government ministers think about this problem? Who is to blame for the condition? (from 4 min 30 till about 6 min)

The government thinks it should support teachers. They tries to defend teachers who defend the complain culture. He ‘needs dedicated teachers with natural authority’, for progress.

4. Which suggestions does Katherine make to improve the system? (6-7 min)

She thinks pupils and teachers should be more responsible. Pupils need to find their place at school for the future. For find a job for example. She says, it's important looking for after student's background.

5. Which changes would Katherine make in the education system if she were given a choice? (till the end of the video)

Katherine would like giving more power and freedom to teachers and headteache. She wants to discipline in the class for make her job. She suggests to get down the level of the exams; because before, it was more difficult and different.

What about you?

 

According to me, us culture is a culture of competition where the more important is to be the best in all discipline.

We found more inequalities in school and, the consequences are the division between the different pupils class. Sometimes, we have more violence at school because there are more frustration and incomprehension. The student take the power in classe and there are more violence with teachers.

It's recent. We say that education is accessible for all, but I think that no. The school is free for all, but when you are in university, you do have a studio, you do pay for food, clothes, books to buy for school, pay transport subscription, and it's represent a big cost. For many pupils, it begins since long time...

The gouvernement shouldn't exculde the popular class in the socity, and give assistance for shool and place in the socity, a legitim place, like everyone. The problem is a problem of society.

 

 

  

Bean fail in exam...

First, at the start of the exam, Mr. Bean is happy and confident. He waits the beginning of exam.
There is a small rivalry with his partner for the supplies. He put his plush and his big alarm clock.
So, much unnecessary !

After the start, he doesn't understand and he's afraid of the paper. We can see the exaggeration of Mr. Bean's mouvements. He takes the time for choice his pen, write his name with exaggeration too.
During the exam, he's trying to copy from his partner.
He seeks many technicals to read the answers's man. He takes his paper, come closer, bring down his pen for look sheet of paper's partner.
It's funny when his partner fails, he must start again. After he cry, because he deseparates.
When he realizes there is a second paper, he 's writing very fast with the pen of man next to him.
He doesn't finish his test, he doesn't have the time !

My reaction in exam...

When I'm writing test, sometimes I'm cool, if I know the subject, it's easy, I take breaks, look at the window.
But if I don't know my subject, I'm angry and nervous. I think about other things.
Before, I'm sleeping during the test. In math', for example...
Now, I'm trying with every subjects because it's important. I progress and don't give up !

Hello, my name is Clément, and I'm a student in licence of "art du spectacle".
(It's the name in France)
I don't have a good english, but I will try to introduce myself.

I don't want to speak about my family, or, make a list of what I like, or don't like...
I prefer talk about my passion, and my professionnal project.

I listen music since my yougest age, and I played many years in a band of music, with my friends.
I listen in general every style of music, even if I prefer two or three style, of course.
For example Electronic music, Reggae or french'songs.

This culture, this passion; is very important for me, and I started to go to the live concert.
My first true live was an artist of Woodstock, Carlos Santana, for my birthday, in 2006. From this moment, I always look the next date for any artist I like..

There hobbies, practice drums and percussions, and go to see a lot of concert leads me to study the "technique show". I mean, learn to use the light, the sound and machinery of theatre, on the stage before and during the show.
After my diploma (a year of training), I don't want working now, because I'm a young boy and I think it's interesting to learn the culture in general, the environmental , the place of culture in France.
I decide to make licence of "art du spectacle for dicover the theatre, and the policy and economy of culture. The idea, is to build theatre, alternative place, for alternative culture.
I want to continue to work in theatre and in the association that make the organization, setup, and running for the concert oh music.
Of course, the music is very important, but there are also the arts as cinema, painting, drawing, graph, circus, theatre, street show, and any other...

The arts, must reflect pipuls and enjoy the show.
I know this lifestyle choice is difficult, but I want to try, for don't regret.
